Jan. 4, 2013— The 2013 Ford F-150 is the first pickup truck to have high intensity discharge (HID) headlamps on exclusive models, according to OSRAM SYLVANIA, an automotive lighting company.
The new HID system will offer improved side-to-side lighting and better foreground illumination than the F-150’s standard tungsten-halogen headlamps, according to OSRAM.
The HID lamps are completely mercury-free, a safety feature that will be a growing trend in coming years, officials said.
"We expect HID systems to continue to grow as more automakers are realizing the safety, energy and styling benefits the technology offers," said Sharon Ernest, NAFTA Automotive HID product manager for OSRAM SYLVANIA.
