General Motors CEO Mary Barra announced that the company will be adopting Tesla’s electric vehicle charging standard to its network of EV charging stations, the Verge reports.
The announcement was made alongside Tesla CEO Elon Musk in a Twitter Spaces conversation this past Thursday. With the agreement, thousands of Tesla Superchargers will be compatible with GM electric vehicles.
The Tesla chargers will be offered to GM drivers sometime early next spring, according to Barra. GM will release the first EV to feature a Tesla charging port in 2025. Musk said that Tesla chargers would not favor Tesla vehicles over other EVs in any way.
“I think people should feel comfortable buying a Tesla or a GM car, and we will provide support equally to both,” Musk stated. “The most important thing is that we advanced the electric vehicle revolution.”
GM currently has an Ultium Charge 360 network that consists of third-party chargers such as Blink, ChargePoint, and others–and will soon include Tesla Superchargers.
