A delivery error at a Safeway gas station in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., caused diesel, 89, and 91 octane gasolines to be contaminated.
Jan. 8, 2020—Auto repair shops across South Lake Tahoe, Calif., are busy fixing vehicles this week after a fuel mix-up at an area Safeway gas station, reports KCRA 3.
Notices were posted at the Safeway pumps stating, “Due to a delivery error, any diesel fuel, 89 or 91 octane gasolines purchased between 8:00 PM on December 30th and 11:00 AM on January 2nd may be contaminated.”
According to the report, drivers who stopped to get gas at these times had their check engine lights come on, even some had to be towed because their vehicle wouldn't start at all.
Geoff Bodle, owner of Sierra Nevada Tire and Wheel, told KCRA 3 that timing is of the essence when repairing a diesel fuel mix-up, adding that repairs can cost drivers anywhere from a few hundred to thousands of dollars upfront.
