Sept. 7, 2022— President Biden has relayed an interest in attending the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan.
According to the Detroit Free Press, the show will be held at Huntington Place convention center and will kickoff with a media day on Sept. 14. The show will open to the public on Sept. 17.
The discussion of his attendance began when Biden hosted a virtual event. During this event, he helped announce the winners of economic development grants.
These winners included a $52 million award for an effort geared toward transportation jobs led by the Detroit Regional Partnership. Maureen Donahue Krauss, president and CEO of the partnership, invited Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and President Biden to the show during the virtual event.
The White House has not confirmed that Biden will attend, but Biden did respond during the virtual event that he had an interest and called himself a "car guy", according to the Detroit Free Press.
The Detroit Free Press also reported U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell, D-Ann Arbor invited President Biden to the show as well.
An update from the Detroit Free Press revealed the White House has confirmed that Biden will attend the show on Sept. 14.
