March 29, 2021—The National Automotive Service Task Force (NASTF) will be launching the new Assisted Immobilizer Reprogramming (AIR) service the week of April 5, according to a press release.

The service will allow background-checked employees to request a secure assisted immobilizer reprogramming sessions with a NASTF contracted service provider when shops need to replace or reprogram modules that involve a vehicle’s security systems. Previously sessions required a NASTF Vehicle Security Credential or the use of tools that can carry cybersecurity risks.

Through the service, the NASTF has created a streamlined process allowing repair shop employees to apply to be background checked as their business’ security technician.
