Ala. Shop Owners Create Anti-Theft Cage for Catalytic Converters
April 28, 2022
April 28, 2022—A pair of Alabama shop owners have designed an anti-theft cage aimed at curbing catalytic converter thefts.
Dean and Cory Parker, owners of Dean’s Auto & Exhaust, have created rebar cages, which they’re selling for $400, that prevent catalytic converters from being stolen. So far, they’ve installed six.
The rising popularity of catalytic converters theft is triggered by the skyrocketing value of the precious metals found within—platinum, rhodium, and palladium—each made scarce due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. State Farm paid out $62.6 million last year for 32,265 catalytic converter thefts, Insurance Journal reported.
