June 17, 2022—Kaimuki Auto Repair in Honolulu, Hawaii, has gained a trusted reputation by following a mission statement that has stood the test of time: keep it like it's always been.
According to KHON 2, the station opened in the 1970s and for the most part, its approach has remained the same since then.
“This is like how it was back in the '70s. The early '70s when my dad started it. All the stations were called service stations. Gas and service we provide repairs gas and service,” said Alan Nakamura. According to the article, Nakamura grew up at the shop and started working there after high school.
His daughter, Laurie Marcouiller, grew up at Kaimuki Auto Repair as well. She followed family tradition and has been working at the shop for 15 years.
The shop is known for honest service and is affectionately labeled as "old school Hawaii" by long-time customer Dave Kaneshiro. The family and community focus keeps people coming back, even though most gas stations have evolved to a self-service model.
Kaimuki Auto Repair offers gas as well as full-service repair to its customers.
“Appreciating your customers—having an excellent crew. My head mechanic has been here [for] over 30 years he’s excellent. He’s one of the key focus and my family and everybody’s family over here.”
