July 17, 2017—Nissan expects zero-emission cars will make up to 20 percent of its sales in Europe by 2020, said Gareth Dunsmore, electric vehicle director for Nissan Europe said in a statement on Monday, according to Reuters.
Craig Van Batenburg, CEO of the Automotive Career Development Center, which trains technicians on how to properly repair EVs and hybrids, said the U.S. will begin to reflect Europe in the 2020s, increasing the importance of investing in hybrid training. While adoption of EVs is slow in the Midwest, he said the market is beginning to boom on the U.S. east and west coasts.
Last week, Ecology Minister Nicolas Hulot said France would aim to end the sale of gasoline and diesel vehicles by 2040 and become carbon neutral 10 years later.
"By 2020, where the market conditions are right, I'm confident we'll be selling up to 20 percent of our volume as zero emissions vehicles and this will only grow," Dunsmore was quoted as saying in an emailed statement.
