Ford Issues Second Recall for Shaky Steering in Mustangs Due to Improper Repairs
Ford is issuing a second recall for over 300 Mustang vehicles due to incorrectly performed repairs, according to The Drive.
On June 28, 2024, approximately 30,000 2022 and 2023 Ford Mustangs were recalled for shaky steering.
“The secondary digital torque sensor in the steering gear was calibrated with an inverted polarity,” Ford explained. “If the primary steering torque sensor experiences a failure or fault and the secondary digital torque sensor’s polarity is inverted, the steering wheel may begin oscillating without warning (alternating clockwise/counterclockwise) when the driver attempts to steer. The oscillation results from the electronic power steering gear providing unintended steering assist.”
Ford issued the recall soon after the manufacturer of the affected part, Nexteer Automotive, made Ford aware of an assembly issue on steering gears.
Now, an estimated 332 vehicles will need to return to the dealer, due to the prior repair not being done correctly. According to Ford Authority, this fix will consist of dealers updating the power steering control module software again.
