Jan. 27, 2014—Ford announced Monday that global registration numbers for its Focus line of vehicles grew more than 16 percent year over year.
In all, Focus global registrations from January through September 2013 grew to 856,587, helping the Focus widen its lead over its next competitor by more than 75,000 units, based on Ford's analysis of the latest Polk global vehicle data.
The numbers were propelled, in part, by Ford's growth in China, where Focus registrations surpassed 303,000 units—an 85 percent year-over-year increase, according to Polk—to also make it the best-selling passenger car nameplate in China.
Focus is driving Ford's global growth and is joined by Fiesta to give Ford two of the top five best-selling nameplates in the world.
"Our success with Focus serving more and more customers around the world underscores the strength of our One Ford plan," said Jim Farley, Ford executive vice president of global marketing, sales and service, and Lincoln. "We remain absolutely committed to developing a full family of vehicles that, like Focus, offer outstanding quality, fuel efficiency, safety, smart design and value."
The Focus and Fiesta have a combined 1,402,555 vehicle registrations during the January through September 2013 period, based on Polk data. Fiesta continues is the top-selling small car in Europe.
