More than 70 workers at a Faurecia auto parts factory in Dexter, Missouri, have gone on strike, reports KFVS.
Beginning Dec. 3, the strike is over safety, occupational injuries, and fair wages, according to Dexter United Auto Workers Local Post-1930.
Currently picketing outside the building, a UAW chairman said that protests would continue until an agreement is reached.
“We’ve never been on strike before, because sometimes, even at the last minute we were able to work out a deal to where both sides could be satisfied,” said Johnny Wright, one of 77 United Auto Workers on strike. “This year, this time for some reason that’s not happening.”
“The company, unfortunately, right out of the gate made it very clear that their intentions were to undermine seniority, overtime rules and customs that they’ve had in place for decades at this facility,” said International Services Representative Jason Starr.
