Massachusetts Vehicle Inspection Stations Down for Days Following CrowdStrike Outage

July 25, 2024
The CrowdStrike tech outage last Friday disrupted the entire state's vehicle inspection system.

After five days of Massachusetts’ statewide vehicle inspection system being dysfunctional, the Registry of Motor Vehicles said yesterday that the system is now online again, reports WCVB Channel 5 Boston.

Following the CrowdStrike tech outage last Friday that sent waves across several different industries, vehicle inspection stations across the state were unable to operate.

Five days after the initial outage, the Registry announced that annual inspections may once again be performed at most sites, though 90 sites remained inoperable at the time of the statement.

For drivers whose registration expired between July 19-31, the state will extend the date to receive an inspection out to Aug. 10.
