March 9, 2023–Shop4D, a shop management system from Auto Profit Masters, selected eight auto repair technicians to attend and be recognized at the VISION Hi-Tech Training & Expo, according to a press release.
Winners were selected from a pool “of both established and aspiring technicians” on a basis of “their experience, their personal journey to becoming a technician, and their professional growth goals.”
They were honored during a dinner on the final night of the event and shared their stories about how they entered the industry.
One technician started in the field because of his stepfather. Another whose interest in automotive technology inspired him to become a technician recounted an old mentor that attended VISION annually.
Simon Kimble is one recipient and a lube tech at Lundstedt Automotive in Fort Collins, Colorado. He got his start doing oil changes on family cars and wants “to grow into the type of tech that can rebuild a transmission reliably.”
“I've always appreciated how vehicles are complex collections of fairly simple principles,” Kimble said.
Recipient Erick Rendon from Absolute Auto in San Luis Obispo, California, became a technician to help his family with repair costs, and said he will “take what I learned back to my team to help all our techs get better at what we do.”
