GM Unable to Get Parts for Airbag Recall

April 21, 2022

Supply chain issues are impacting an airbag recall for certain Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave models.

April 21, 2022—General Motors is facing issues getting access the to supplies necessary to fix a small amount of Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave models from 2021-2022.

This is more than likely due to supply chain issues, according to an article by Car Buzz. The recall stems from an issue with the connectors on side curtain airbags that had bad electrical terminals installed during what GM is referring to as "offline service" at their assembly plant.

This could prevent side curtain airbags from deploying properly, and while only 89 units are said to be affected, it is ultimately causing more of a headache than expected.

GM says that the assembly plant has resolved the problem that leads to this airbag issue as of November 1, 2021. But there has not been a timeline provided as to when the parts to address this recall properly will be available.

This means that, even though affected customers will be notified of the recall by May 16, there is no certainty over when exactly the fix can be made in their vehicles.

Repairs will occur as soon as the parts are able to be accessed, pending supply chain woes.
