Aug. 1, 2016—The Automotive Service Association (ASA) hosted a webinar on Wednesday, July 27, focusing on the current state of telematics and new technology policy.
The webinar was presented by Donny Seyfer, ASA chairman and co-owner of Seyfer Automotive in Wheat Ridge, Colo.; Chris Gardner, vice president of the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association; and Wayne Weikel, senior director of State Government Affairs for the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers.
The webinar discussed how OEMs are increasingly pushing research and development in the area of vehicle technology and how these high-tech vehicles will become more prevalent in shops. It also discussed how technology is developing so quickly, that it is outpacing legislation surrounding it. This will mean there will be an increase in the number of bills in the next few years surrounding vehicle technology. Overall, service shops will need to learn new diagnostic techniques, advanced training, and greater awareness of privacy concerns and risks.
