Jan. 11, 2013—Johnson Controls, Inc., a supplier of automotive batteries, will unveil its new 48-volt micro-hybrid battery at the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), according to a company press release_notes.
The new battery leverages a dual-voltage architecture, which contains a low-voltage lead-acid battery and a 48-volt lithium-ion battery that optimizes energy consumption and saves on fuel.
"Even as start-stop vehicles become part of the mainstream in Europe and start to take hold in the U.S., micro-hybrid technology has the potential to deliver the next level of fuel efficiency along the spectrum of vehicle performance, reaching upwards of 15 to 20 percent in fuel economy," Alex Molinaroli, president of Johnson Controls Power Solutions, said in a statement.
