July 9, 2018—Mazda is recalling nearly 270,000 vehicles with Takata air bags, reported USA Today.
According to the report, the potentially deadly defect can be found in passenger-side air bags on certain 2003-2008 Mazda6, 2006-2007 Mazdaspeed6 and 2004 MPV vehicles nationwide. It also involves 2005-2006 MPV models in certain states.
Over the last several years, about 50 million air bag inflators have been recalled in the U.S., with 22 deaths and more than 180 injuries linked to the defect.
Takata has since been bought by Chinese-owned U.S. mobility safety company Key Safety System, reported USA Today.
Taking Advantage of Recalls
For many shops, the standard process for dealing with vehicle recalls is to check their information system, see what customers have cars with recalls and then notify them. However, what’s frequently missed is that recalls could mean the loss of business for the shop if a customer is enticed to keep visiting his or her dealership.
While repair shops might only be the first to notify customers regarding recalls, they can also get ahead of losing customers to competitors. The goal, then, is to ensure you retain those customers.
