Oct. 28, 2021—Volvo has added around 195,000 more vehicles to a recall necessitated by exploding airbag inflators, bring the total number of units recalled to more than 460,000.

The recall was first issued in early October, according to Kelley Blue Book, and covered 2001-2006 S80 and 2001-2009 S60 sedans. The recall now includes 2001-2007 V70 and XC70 wagons.

Recalled models may have airbag inflators that can explode due to degraded propellant, causing larger-than-anticipated explosions and sending hot shrapnel into a vehicle's cabin. In a report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Volvo says it is aware of an accident that resulted in one fatality due to the inflator malfunctioning.

Owners can bring their vehicle into any Volvo dealership and get a replacement airbag inflator at no charge.
