October 26, 2018— In celebration of National Service Day, Shawnee Christian Brothers Automotive in Kansas, donated 50 free oil changes to both single mothers and widows for the seventh year in a row, Shawnee Dispatch reports. During the oil change, technicians inspected for safety items and replaced worn car parts for free, according to Shawnee Dispatch.
“Most women feel uneasy about car maintenance,” said Tammie Green, co-owner of the Shawnee Christian Brothers Automotive to Shawnee Dispatch. “When I was a single mom, I didn’t know who to trust when it came to my car care."
"At Christian Brothers, we want women to know they can trust us. We consider ourselves blessed to help them and their families."
In addition to the maintenance repairs, the team worked alongside other organizations including the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Mill Valley High School and AutoZone to provide family-friendly activities, Shawnee Dispatch reports. Goodie bags were also given to each family, according to the Shawnee Dispatch, which included items such as handmade washcloths and hats made by two Shawnee Christian Brothers Automotive customers.
