Jan. 21, 2019—Valvoline Inc., has created an initiative to help cater to the industry's growing technician shortage. In early January of this year, the company launched "Auto Career Accelerator," an online recruiting platform that connects job seekers with available positions in the automotive services and heavy-duty industries.
"Our goal is to provide insight, support and opportunity to the thousands of individuals interested in automotive careers while helping fill the projected shortage of 75,000 technicians in the next decade," said Jamal Muashsher, vice president of Marketing, Digital and Customer Experience at Valvoline Inc.
According to Muashsher, students were able to create profiles with their resume this past fall, and have been able to take the talent match assessment.
"The talent match provides insight into the types of positions and careers an individual may be best suited for based on their goals, strengths and more," Muashsher said.
Those who hop on the website or are part of the Valvoline Ignition Program are able to apply to posted sites on the website.
"The jobs posted come from our large network of installers from across the automotive industry including ASC’s, Quick Lubes, Major National Accounts and our Valvoline Instant Oil Change locations," Muashsher said. "We are working to add roles in the Heavy Duty industry in the near future."
The initiative was created in efforts to help fill the technician gap that the company regularly saw through business ventures.
"The number one challenge for installers has been a shortage of technicians which is projected to grow in the coming years," Muashsher said. "We felt it was a natural connection—provide the students in the programs additional support and access to career opportunities as they look to enter an automotive profession while helping address the needs of our partners."
