July 22, 2019—A new bill being considered in Pennsylvania would get rid of yearly car inspections for cars under nine-years-old, reports NBC 6 WJAC.
Last month, the Senate passed multiple bills that would change the current law: requiring almost all vehicles, including cars, vans and trucks, in 25 counties of the state to have emissions testing done every year. If passed, it would save consumers about $40 a year.
Some auto repair shop owners believe auto emissions tests are keeping the public and the environment safe and should stay that way, while others say mileage should be considered over age of the car.
"I feel like it would save money, but at the same time just because the car is newer doesn't exactly mean that it's going to function properly for eight years," said Alex Inirio, of Scranton.
The proposed bills are now with the House of Representatives.
