April 29, 2019—My Mechanics Place in Livonia, Mich., is a 22-service bay location where customers can perform work on their own vehicles, according to a story by Hometown Life.

Jay Rebaut is the founder of the do-it-yourself garage. His vision was to create a garage where people could perform their own vehicles repairs, which would save them money and also provide a revenue stream for Rebaut, according to the Hometown Life.

Rebaut says he gets 15-25 new customers per week. The business has tools that are available to rent for $5 per hour. More complex tools are available for $10 per hour.

The savings passed along to the customer are substantial, according to the story. For example, some tire stores charge as much as $30 to mount and balance each tire — $120 for all four tires. At My Mechanics Place, renting a flat stall for $12 an hour plus $10 an hour to use the tire machine brings the cost to mount and balance all four tires to $22.

The garage also has two certified mechanics on staff to help customers.
