Michigan Community College Offering up to $5K in Electric Vehicle Training
A community college in Michigan will be offering up to $5,000 in training and education for individuals looking to enter the automotive industry and work with EVs, reports Concentrate.
The Power UP Your Future program is being launched by Washtenaw Community College in partnership with Michigan Works! Southeast to provide training and resources for high demand mobility jobs in the area.
Resources such as career advising, tuition assistance, supportive services, and apprenticeships will be offered through the program, with WCC providing education and MWSE helping connect participants with potential jobs.
To be eligible, participants must be at least 17 years old, not enrolled in secondary education, and interested in working in automotive.
In addition, the partnership has brought the introduction of two new EV certificate programs at WCC: EV service and EV fundamentals and safety, as well as a new EV concentration within its transportation technologies associate degree.
“WCC's new EV-focused certificates and programs are designed to develop critical technical skills and industry-specific competencies that are in high demand,” told Alison Petersen, WCC's director of mobility initiatives. “Michigan has very strong competitors in the mobility industry, and we want to make sure we are providing education and training to prepare future generations for careers in mobility.”
