BMW has shared plans to bring a hydrogen vehicle onto the market as soon as 2028, Reuters reports.
The news was announced last Thursday, and detailed that an existing model would be released with a hydrogen fuel cell drive option. No information was shared on the estimated pricing or production volume.
Using technology developed alongside Toyota Motor Corp, the partnership has allowed BMW to cut costs and develop a technology that may also be used in commercial vehicles, according to the German automaker.
BMW has been developing prototypes of both fuel cell vehicles and battery vehicles, in anticipation of either one coming out on top in the market. The automaker said that by 2028, it expects the infrastructure for hydrogen vehicles, such as refueling stations, to have expanded significantly.
