Next time you see one of these older Volvos roll through your shop, make sure they know about the free upgrade available next year.

Volvo is releasing a free, over-the-air software update to bring the infotainment systems seen in its newer models to some of its older vehicles, according to Edmunds.

The new Android-powered multimedia software from Volvo was first introduced in its electric EX90 and EX30 vehicles, and is compatible with Apple CarPlay.

Vehicles built in 2020 or later and that are equipped with Google's Android software are eligible for the update, which is expected to be released next year.

The following models meeting that criteria are able to receive the infotainment update: C40, XC40, EX40 (XC40 Recharge), EC40 (C40 Recharge), S60, V60, V60 Cross Country, XC60, S90, V90, V90 Cross Country, and XC90.
