Electric Vehicle Course for Automotive Instructors Held at Ohio Community College
Sinclair Community College of Dayton, Ohio, is holding a three-day course to prepare automotive instructors for instruction in hybrid and EV repair, reports WDTN 2 NEWS.
The program, in its second year, is funded by a federal grant, and will teach automotive instructors from around the country on how to train future techs to safely work on EVs and hybrids.
Justin Morgan, automotive technology chairperson for Sinclair and a member of the ASE Education Foundation Board of Directors, said the goal being instilled in instructors is not only to teach safe practices, but to inspire and motivate students.
“We’re trying to get young people excited about technology, telling people how to be safe, but then also when you go back to your schools to not make it so scary that nobody wants to do any of these actions and lab tasks,” said Morgan.
The school plans to host 40 more automotive instructors for next year’s session.
“This is hugely important with the changing automotive industry,” said Anthony Iannuzzi, an automotive instructor from New Jersey. “This technology needs to be understood from a safety aspect.”
