Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce Launches ‘Automotive Task Force’ to Establish Local Technician Pipeline
In an effort to combat the rising demand for technicians, Fort Worth, Texas’ Chamber of Commerce has launched an Automotive Task Force to create a talent pipeline benefitting students and local businesses, reports NBC DFW.
The program will partner with the Fort Worth Independent School District to begin offering it in the upcoming school year. In addition, Tarrant County College, which offers a two-year automotive service technology degree, will be supporting the program.
Steve Montgomery, president and CEO of the Fort Worth Chamber, said that a need for technicians has been seen across a variety of industries in the area, from automotive to airlines and engineering.
Often times, students aren’t aware of the high-paying jobs that exist in these fields. To combat this, the Automotive Task Force will supply students and their parents with brochures and other information on different businesses in town, and help students develop a path to success.
With the program’s launch, Montgomery and the Chamber are trying to get the word out and encourage businesses to get involved with their efforts.
“It's a win-win because obviously Tarrant County employers need good employees and young students need a path to success. So they stay here and are successful,” explained Automotive Task Force Chair Brendan Harrington.
