The Auto Care Association, along with 24 other industry groups, are urging for action on the REPAIR Act, according to a press release.
A total of 25 organizations including the Auto Care Association, CAR Coalition, MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers, National Federation of Independent Businesses, and U.S. PIRG have signed off on a letter to the House Energy & Commerce Committee urging for more action on the REPAIR Act (H.R. 906).
The REPAIR Act currently has over 50 bipartisan co-sponsors, and last year unanimously passed through the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Innovation, Data, and Commerce.
According to the letter, following a previous markup session on the REPAIR Act, lead sponsor Dr. Neal Dunn (R-FL) addressed different concerns from the subcommittee, including cybersecurity concerns with the Standardized Access Platform, which Dunn has altered to now be shared through the already existing OEM dealer and partner network.
Dunn has also made changes to parts of the bill related to autonomous vehicles, the use of consumer data, and preemption.
Following these changes, this letter is now calling on the House Energy & Commerce Committee to include and pass the REPAIR Act at the next Energy and Commerce markup.
“We respectfully request your support for its inclusion and passage at the next Energy and Commerce markup,” the letter reads. “We applaud and support the efforts of Dr. Dunn to ensure that the concerns raised by members of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Innovation, Data, and Commerce were heard and addressed after the subcommittee markup.”
