Study Looks at Most Popular Models and Regions for Electric Vehicle Drivers
A recent study conducted by car subscription service FINN looked at what the most popular electric vehicles currently are, and what areas have made the most progress toward EV adoption, according to a press release.
Topping the list of EV popularity growth in the U.S. was the Tesla Model Y, which sold 104,608 more vehicles in Q3 of 2023 compared to that of 2022. The Model Y is currently the most popular EV model in the country, representing 34% of all EV sales.
Following behind the Model Y was the Chevy Bolt EV/EUV. Frequently considered the most affordable EV on the market with a price tag of $26,500, sales for the Bolt more than doubled by Q3 of 2023.
Coming in third on the list was the Rivian R1S, which by its third quarter of 2023 sold more than 16,000 more EVs than it did for the entirety of 2022.
Having been the leader in the EV movement, California unsurprisingly ranked as the state with the highest rate of EV adoption. According to FINN’s study, the state has 25.02 EVs per 1,000 vehicles registered.
Massachusetts ranked the highest in public EV charging station adoption with 85.39 per 1,000 square kilometers. For the state to meet its emissions goals, it will need to implement 10,000 fast chargers by 2030.
Southern states have experienced an expansion in EV adoption, as well. Oklahoma was the top state in EV registration increase, and southern states as a whole saw the number of EV registrations jump from just over 7,000 in 2021 to 16,300 in 2023, representing an increase of nearly 130%.
