Jan. 5, 2021—General Motors has opened its Additive Industrialization Center at its Global Technical Center in Warren, Mich., according to a press release.
The new facility is dedicated to production with the use of 3D technology, features 24 3D printers that create polymer and metal solutions, and is equipped to include complete processes like selective laser sintering, selective laser melting, Multi-Jet Fusion and fused deposition modeling.
With the production of 3D printed parts, GM will be able to trim expensive early tooling costs and reduce part development times. The automaker is also producing 3D printed tools that are lighter and more ergonomic that can be used for assembling vehicles.
