May 27, 2022—Hands of the Carpenter is a non-profit auto repair shop in Colorado, and they recently celebrated the opening of a second location in Aurora.
According to 9 News, Hands of the Carpenter repairs vehicles at discount for single mothers. Its first location is in Golden, Colorado.
As an organization, it has been in operation for almost 20 years. During that time, it's estimated that the shop has helped serve around 3,000 individuals. The new location in Aurora will allow the team to reach even more mothers and individuals in need.
"If it's a $1,000 repair bill, they're going to pay $350. And our operation, our donors, everyone covers the rest," said founder and CEO Dan Georgopulos in the article.
Beyond offering discounted repair rates, some customers become eligible to receive a car from the non-profit if their current vehicle cannot be repaired to functioning order. These vehicles are obtained through donations.
"At the end of the day it’s not about the paycheck—it’s about whether or not I’ve had the opportunity to care about somebody and they know that," he said.
"We’re here to serve because we get to. It’s not something that we have to do," said Russell Bacon, Hands of the Carpenter mechanic.
