GM Dealerships Have Repaired 1000s of Teslas

Nov. 23, 2022

GM president Mark Reuss says the automaker has repaired over 11,000 Teslas at its dealerships.

Nov. 23, 2022—In its annual investor day presentation, General Motors revealed that its dealerships have repaired thousands of Teslas—11,180 according to a slideshow on its website.

GM president Mark Reuss explained that “about 90% of the U.S. population lives within 10 miles of a GM dealer, which gives us unmatched network proximity for the customer sales and service experience…superior service strongly enabled in the dealership model is not easily duplicated by direct sellers.”

According to Green Car Reports, this recent allowance of third-party repair comes as a result of Right to Repair legislation. Without it, Tesla owners would be at the mercy of the automaker to provide timely repairs, particularly those who own older models.

Now, says the report, “it seems some of the same protections being put in place for independent repair shops could also benefit GM and its dealer network.”

The option to repair Tesla vehicles is up to the dealership itself with no pressure from GM.
