August 19, 2013—Mercedes-Benz recently announced the graduation of the first 19 trainees from the automotive technician program of Mercedes-Benz U.S. International (MBUSI) in Vance, Ala.
The graduates were awarded graduation certificates recognized by the German American Chambers of Commerce.
Mercedes implemented the program to train future employees at the manufacturer’s assembly plant in Vance, Ala.
The German Dual Vocational Training System combines classroom and business, theory and practice, learning and working. The training lasts three years and includes hands-on practice in a working environment.
“MBUSI’s Automotive Technician Program shows how the German-style apprenticeship programs can be one of the solutions to address the gap in skilled workforce in the U.S.,” said Martina Stellmaszek, president & CEO of the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Southern U.S.
