Mazda Rated as Most Fuel-Efficient Manufacturer

Dec. 23, 2013

Dec. 23, 2013—The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ranked Mazda Motor Corporation as the most fuel efficient auto manufacturer in the U.S.

SKYACTIV, an engineering technology incorporated into the manufacturer's engines, has helped Mazda develop more fuel efficient vehicles.

"Mazda has long had a history of doing things differently, and SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY is no exception," said Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO of Mazda North American Operations, in a news release_notes about the achievement. "While other manufacturers have turned their attention to hybrids and electric cars, we chose to focus on perfecting the base technology used in more than 90 percent of the cars and SUVs sold today: the internal combustion engine. Through analyzing and refining this technology, as well as every other component in a modern automobile, Mazda has been able to achieve class-leading fuel economy in nearly every segment it competes in, and bring that technology–at an affordable price–to every customer."

Mazda has the highest fleet-wide adjusted fuel economy performance at 27.1 miles per gallon, and the lowest CO2 emissions at 328 grams per milliliter. According a press release, the company has achieved the highest fuel efficiency of any other mainstream automotive manufacturer.
