West Coast Drives Demand for Hybrid Vehicles

April 21, 2014

April 21, 2014—West Coast residents lead the nation in terms of interest in buying hybrid vehicles, according to a recent study by automotive research and shopping site CarGurus.

San Jose, Calif.; San Francisco; Portland, Ore.; Los Angeles and Seattle topped the list of cities with the highest percentage of shopper purchase inquiries on used hybrid car listings.

As for the cities where shoppers showed the least demand, Detroit topped the list, followed by Virginia Beach, Va.; Pittsburgh; New Orleans and Cincinnati.

The study also found that the most popular used hybrid vehicle across all regions is the Toyota Prius, which makes up 26 percent of all consumer purchase inquiries on used hybrid car listings.

“Nearly twenty years since the introduction of the Toyota Prius, the market for used hybrids is hitting its stride, and that’s good for consumers looking to save some green on a green car purchase,” said Langley Steinert, CEO of CarGurus.
