March 24, 2016—Toyota unveiled Wednesday the newest addition to the Prius lineup, the 2017 Prius Prime, at the New York International Auto Show. Toyota says the new model is an ultra-efficient hybrid with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

The automaker claims the Prius Prime to have an estimated 120 MPG, which is expected to be the highest of any plug-in hybrid, and offers an estimated 22 miles of electric-only range, two times what the previous model offered. The Prius Prime is also expected to be able to drive up to 84 mph in EV mode. It will offer an estimated 600 miles of range.

Toyota will offer the Prius Prime packed with safety and convenience technology, including a standard 11.6-inch HD central screen with standard navigation and available head up display. In addition, Toyota will offer Toyota Safety Sense P, which includes the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection and Automatic Braking; Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist;  Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with full stop technology; and Automatic High Beams.  Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert are also available.
