in-depth study on the best and worst cities to drive in, comparing the 100 largest cities across 29 key indicators of driver-friendliness. And one of those factors included access to and cost of maintenance.
WalletHub ranked the cities with the most automotive repair shops per capita. There was a huge difference between the top city on the list and the bottom city.
The top five were:
- Las Vegas
- Orlando, Fla.
- Miami
- New York City
- Houston
The bottom five were:
- New Orleans
- Washington, D.C.
- Laredo, Tex.
- Irvine, Calif.
- Boston
The cities with the lowest and highest auto maintenance costs were also ranked:
The top five were:
- Portland, Ore.
- El Paso, Tex.
- Memphis, Tenn.
- Jacksonville, Fla.
- Laredo, Tex.
The bottom five were:
- 96. Boston
- 97. Winston-Salem, N.C.
- 98. Honolulu
- 99. Seattle
- 100. New York City
In terms of best cities to drive in, Raleigh, N.C. took the top spot, while Detroit was the worst city to drive in, according to their findings.

- Plano, Tex.
The bottom five worst cities to drive in were:
- Seattle
- Philadelphia
